Mobility

Despite what those muscle-y meatheads say, Flexibility is not "the ability to FLEX!"

Whether your exercise regimen is heavy weightlifting, long distance cardio, or anything in between or combining these (such as CrossFit), one thing remains true: without proper attention to mobility of our joints and tissues, you are cutting short some of the gains and improvements in your training.  Even minor losses in flexibility can result in major losses in proper and efficient movement patterns, and so the viscious cycle begins.  It's easy for us to put in the time for our strength or endurance workouts, but for some reason that same devotion goes away when its time to stretch, roll out, and likely feel that pain and discomfort from realizing this area is lacking- so, we put it off!

Just as CrossFit, Zumba, bootcamps and other programs have realized, exercise is easier and more enjoyable when you do it with a group of your peers.  But these programs also have difficulty fitting in the time to spend on mobility, as your one hour class has so many other components that must be done first.

Our mobility workshops are a full hour of addressing* your tight, sore, and painful areas using the tools already found at your gym, or perhaps even at home.  The aim of each session is to initiate a general self-rehabilitation for these common tissues that are in despair.  These are great as a warm-up to your regular exercising, a post-workout relaxation, or as a WOD on their own (which is why we sometimes refer to it as "Yoga, on Steroids!"), while only complementing your gym or trainer's existing program

Our expert, Kevin LaPlatney, instructs the group by putting to work his 15 year sports medicine background in physical therapy and athletic training, and sharing some of what he has learned from the CrossFit Mobility certification program and numerous colleagues in the field such as Dr. Kelly Starrett of mobilitywod.com.
